In 2021 a takeover bid by Caesars Entertainment in Nevada was agreed. William Hill Casino went on to win the 2013 eGR Operator Awards for best 'Casino Operator of the Year' award and the award for the best 'Mobile Casino Product of the Year'. In 2013 William Hill bought out the 29% share Playtech had in William Hill. It operates these as WHG (International) Limited, licensed in Gibraltar.
As part of the deal, William Hill acquired several online casinos. To save its struggling online operations, William Hill wrote off £26 million they had spent on their in-house system and entered into a deal with online gaming company Playtech. By 2008, however, its online operations were suffering. William Hill launched its online Casino in 2000 and initially enjoyed great success. In 1929 he moved to London, where he started taking bets at the Greyhound track and went on to open an illegal gambling den in Jermyn Street in 1934. While working in a local factory, he started collecting illegal bets from the locals. William Hill is named after its founder, born in Birmingham in 1903.
